
Jesse Walrath of Racine, Wis., when a boy and young man a resident of this village, died at his home Monday morning
after a week's illness, the result of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Walrath had been in poor health for over a year.
The deceased was a son of the late Daniel Walrath, and was born in Chittenango in 1837 in the old Daniel Walrath
homestead near the foundry. He was educated at the old Polytechnic Institute, now Yates Union school. About forty years
ago he married Miss Anna Slocum who still survives him. A short time after his father's death, he in company with two of
his brothers, Abram and Peter, formed a partnership and bought out the other interests in the Walrath Foundry, and conducted
it for seven years at the end of which time Jesse Walrath, withdrew and accepted a position with the Corlis Engine Co., of
Providence, R.I., with whom he remained in a responsible position for over eight years. It was in 1881 that he accepted a
position with the J.I. Case Mfg. Co., of Racine, Wis., with whom he remained until two years ago when he retired on account
of his health. Mr. Walrath was a self made business man, a genius along mechanical lines, honest and trustworthy.
Mr. Walrath had many friends here and here as in his own town, was greatly esteemed. Besides a wife, he is survived by
three sisters, Mrs. Robert Kennedy, Miss Cornelia Walrath, Miss Caroline Walrath; two brothers, Abram Walrath and George
Walrath, all of Chittenango.
The funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Robert Kennedy in this village Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock,
and Rev. J. Elmer Russell officiated. The body was laid at rest in Oakwood cemetery.
