In the Hospital of the Good Shepherd, Syracuse, Thursday, Feb. 5, 1953, occurred the death of Florence Rutherford Walrath. Miss Walrath was born in Chittenango, June 20, 1877, a daughter of the late Abram and Catherine Ten Eyck Walrath. The beautiful brick house in which she was born and where she spent her youth was built by her grandfather, Mr. Walrath. She was a graduate of Yates High School, Albany State College and Central City Business school at Syracuse. She taught school at New Rochelle, Long island, until she was called home to be with her parents in their declining years. At the death of her parents she moved to Syracuse, where she and her sister, the late Mrs. Harvey Woodworth and niece, Catherine Woodworth resided. She had been for many years been employed by the Schoeneck Awning Company, where she served faithfully until about a week before her death. Owing to her retiring disposition and self-effacement she was not well-known to new comers in her native village but those who were privileged to know her appreciate her friendliness, loyalty and sterling character. Surviving is her niece, Catherine Woodworth, with whom she lived and several cousins. Burial was in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango, Saturday, Feb. 7, 1953.
