Former Resident Dies.

Abram Walrath, former resident of this village and prominent citizen and business man of Weedsport, died at his home in that place about 2 o'clock on Friday, January 8. He had been in poor health for some time, suffering from heart trouble. Over-exertion caused his death. Mr. Walrath was born in Chittenango sixty-one years ago and was the son of John H. and Julia Walrath. He spent his early life here and received his education in the Yates Polytechnic Institute, then a nation famous educational institution. Later he was for many years in business with Walrath and Downer at Tonawanda, near Buffalo, where a successful lumber business was carried on by them. A few years later he engaged in the lumber business at Weedsport. There he was also president of the Abram Walrath Bent Works, manufacturing parts of wagons and manufacturing and putting up many silos. He constructed many silos in this locality. Abram Walrath also was interested with the late Peter Walrath and bought and cleared the timber from the Brinkerhoof estate near this village, an undertaking requiring several years. He had been very successful in the lumber business at Weedsport where he was president of the Abram Walrath Lumber Co., at the time of his death. Recently he had built himself a fine home there. He was active in church affairs, a member of the board of trustees of the Baptist church and active in no-license work. In politics he was a Democrat. He was widely and favorably known and had many friends and is remembered by the older residents of this place. He is survived by his wife and a son, John Walrath, of Weedsport; two sisters, Alice and Copra Walrath of this place and a brother, John Walrath, of Syracuse. The funeral was held Monday at the home in Weeedsport and burial made there. Justice Elgin D. Walrath, Chauncey Button, Mrs. D.W. Walrath of this place, and Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Gay of Glassboro, N.J., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peck of Shortsville, and Mr. and Mrs.. Yale of Syracuse, besides Mr. and Mrs. John Walrath of Syracuse attended the funeral.
